VOYAGER-X feiern mit der heutigen Veröffentlichung ihres Progressive Metal Albums „Magic“ über Dr. Music Records ihr erfolgreiches Comeback und katapultieren ihre Musik damit in die Gegenwart

Nachdem VOYAGER-X in den vergangenen Wochen und Monaten mit ihren bisherigen drei Single-Veröffentlichungen „Janus Face“, das von in den Wahnsinn treibenden Albträumen handelt, dem medienkritischen „Hypnotize You“ und dem von einer wahren Begebenheit über unschuldig zum Tode Verurteilte inspirierten „Walk On The Dead Line“ für reichlich Gesprächsstoff in der Rock- und Metal-Szene gesorgt haben, ist es heute, am 22.03.2024 endlich soweit und das lang erwartete Album „Magic“ erscheint via Dr. Music Records. Der Longplayer entfacht mit seiner zauberhaften Mischung aus Progressive Metal, Melodic Rock und Hardrock ein virtuoses musikalisches Feuerwerk und beim Hören der neun von Romin Katzer remasterten Songs entschwebt der Hörer förmlich in Zeiten, als musikalische Virtuosität und Gesangskunst noch perfekt harmonierten und Bands wie Van Halen, Survivor, Marillion oder Saga die Charts dominierten. VOYAGER-X schlagen mit ihrer anspruchsvollen Rockmusik gekonnt die Brücke von klassischem Bombast- und Artrock hin zu moderneren Sounds und sie gehörten zwischen 1987 und 1997 zur Spitze der aufstrebenden Rockszene rund um Nürnberg und Süddeutschland. Ihr erfrischender Sound mit einer originellen Bühnenperformance und starken Songs begeisterte Fans härterer Rockmusik auf unzähligen Konzerten und Festivals. Sänger Mario Gansen nahm 1979 mit der deutschen Krautrock-Formation Grim Reaper das Album „We Were All Fools …“ auf und spielte im Vorprogramm von Judas Priest und auch von Motörhead bei deren 1980er Bomber-Tour. Während eines Dynasty Gigs, seiner zweiten größeren Band, traf er erstmals auf die VOYAGER-X Musiker Stephan und Jörg, mit denen er darauf die nächsten zehn Jahre gemeinsam erfolgreich musizierte und die auch heute noch an Bord sind. Eigentlich hätte das Album „Magic“ bereits 1997 erscheinen sollen, doch kurz nach den Aufnahmen der Songs im Zirndorfer Deckelmann Studio, entschieden die Musiker aufgrund ihrer damaligen Lebensumstände, die sie rund um den Globus verteilte, ihre Band, die damals noch VOYAGER hieß, auf Eis zu legen. Aus diesem Dornröschenschlaf erwachte die Gruppe dann erst, nachdem sich die Originalbesetzung bestehend aus Sänger Mario Gansen, Gitarrist Stephan Baumgärtner, Bassist Jörg Schreiber, Keyboarder Christian Mordek und Schlagzeuger Peter Webert während einer Veranstaltung im Jahr 2019 traf und dabei die Idee zündete, das fortzusetzen, was 22 Jahre zuvor nach einer aufregenden Dekade intensiv gelebten Rock ’n’ Roll Lifestyle so abrupt endete. Aufgrund anderer Bands, die den Namen inzwischen nutzten, wurde der Bandname in VOYAGER-X umbenannt. In den Lyrics, die aus der Feder von Sänger Mario Gansen (ex-Grim Reaper, ex-Dynasty) stammen, werden politische wie auch immer noch aktuelle Ereignisse verarbeitet. Die Musiker verstehen sich als Entertainer mit einem gewissen Anspruch, die ihr Publikum mit ihrem abwechslungsreichen Programm auf eine Reise durch ihre eigene Rockgeschichte mitnehmen.

Dass VOYAGER-X mit „Magic“ etwas ganz Besonderes gelungen ist, zeigen auch die zahlreichen, teils enthusiastischen Pressereaktionen aus aller Welt:

Hardline (DE): Das Album ist sehr stark geworden, alle neun Songs haben ein hohes Niveau […] alles klingt frisch und unverbraucht, die Produktion ist sehr gelungen.
Rock It! (DE): Eine großartige Mischung aus eingängigen, harten Rocksounds, die auf progressive Elemente treffen und über denen die markante, hohe Stimme von Sänger Marco Gansen schwebt. […] Es ist eine Freude den Stücken zu lauschen. „Magic“ hat das Potenzial, in meine persönliche Alltime-100-Liste weit oben einzusteigen.
Legacy (DE): Die Kompositionen sind unterm Strich so stark – selbst zum Ende hin, geht der Band keine Luft aus – und sie wurden mit so viel Feuer unterm Allerwertesten eingespielt, dass sie sehr zeitgemäß wirken. „Magic“ bietet also das Beste aus zwei Welten, gekrönt von einem angenehm rotzigen Sänger und präsenten Keyboards, die dem Ganzen selbst in AOR-lastigen Momenten („Crime Of The Century“) nichts von ihrer metallischen Härte nehmen.
Metal Hammer (DE): Solider Progressive Rock aus Süddeutschland.
La Heavy (ESP): Eine magische Mischung aus Progressive Metal und Melodic Hardrock, eingefangen in neun Songs, deren exzellente Produktion und klarer Sound Fans von kristallklarem Melodic Rock zweifelsohne begeistern wird und dabei ein Maximum an Power entfaltet. […] Das Album könnte irgendwo zwischen nuancierten Dream Theater, progressiv angehauchten Stratovarius und sogar Ayreon Anfängen einzuordnen sein.
Metal Hammer (ESP): Wenn du die Play-Taste bei den neun Tracks drückst, wirst du in die Vergangenheit zurückversetzt. Es ist, als würde man in die Zeit zurückkehren, als Musik noch pure Magie war und Bands wie Van Halen, Survivor oder Marillion das Radio beherrschten. VOYAGER-X verstehen es, Klassik und Moderne zu verbinden und einen anspruchsvollen Rocksound zu kreieren. Die Musik dieser Band hat mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Bands vergisst sie nicht, wie wichtig die Arrangements sind. Jede Melodie ist sorgfältig durchdacht, so dass sich jeder Titel von den anderen unterscheidet. Und das Beste ist, dass das Album so klar produziert und gemischt ist, dass man jedes Instrument einzeln hören kann.
Metal Hammer (IT):Alle Songs sind ausgereift, ausdrucksstark und klanglich fokussiert. Abgerundet wird das Ganze durch eine Hochglanz-Produktion, die das exzellente Können der Musiker unterstreicht, allen voran Gitarrist Baumgartner, der uns mit seinem starken, an Steve Rothery angelehnten Solo auf „Don’t Lose The Path” besonders beeindruckt hat. Sehr empfehlenswert!
Rock Hard (IT): Die Wahrheit ist, dass die Songs auf „Magic“ den Test der Zeit bestehen und viel beständiger sind als vieles, was heutzutage als Neuheit des Jahrhunderts präsentiert wird. Der Aspekt, der einen buchstäblich sprachlos macht, ist die Fähigkeit von VOYAGER-X, in ihren Songs Crescendos zu erzeugen, die das Gefühlsniveau immer weiter nach oben treiben. Diese Metamorphosen werden durch Mario Gansens Stimme noch verstärkt, ein wahres Chamäleon, das seine Tonalität je nach Situation völlig verändern kann.
Amplified-Mag.de: Die Kombination aus kraftvollen Gitarrenriffs, melodischen Keyboardpassagen und der charismatischen Stimme von Mario Gansen ist einfach unwiderstehlich. […] Insgesamt ist „Magic“ ein Album, das sowohl Fans der alten Schule als auch Neueinsteiger gleichermaßen begeistern wird. VOYAGER-X haben mit ihrem Werk bewiesen, dass gut gemachte Rockmusik zeitlos ist und immer wieder für Gänsehautmomente sorgen kann.
Crossfire-Metal.de: Die Art und Weise, wie Sänger Mario Gansen seine Stimme einsetzt, erinnert mich stellenweise an Fish (ex-Marillion), nur ein wenig rauer. Auch die Keyboards klingen gelegentlich nach Marillion zu dieser Zeit. Damit rennen die süddeutschen Musiker bei mir offene Türen ein, zumal sie auch in Sachen Vielseitigkeit überzeugen können.
EdgarAllanPoets.com: Die Single „Janus Face“ von VOYAGER-X ist eine fesselnde Reise in eine musikalische Retro-Welt, die die beeindruckenden kompositorischen Fähigkeiten und die ausgeprägte künstlerische Vision der Band unter Beweis stellt. […] Das offensichtliche musikalische Wissen und die entwickelte künstlerische Perspektive der Band scheinen durch und schaffen einen Sound, der eine Hommage an die 80er Jahre ist und gleichzeitig eine moderne Faszination ausstrahlt. […] Die Liebe zum Detail und das dynamische Spiel der Band machen diese Single zu einer bemerkenswerten Ergänzung ihrer Diskografie und machen Lust auf mehr.
Ever-Metal.com: Man denke an Saga, ein bisschen Magnum und Mario Gansens Gesang, der an Marillion aus der Fish Ära erinnert, und schon kann man nicht viel falsch machen. Und das macht die Band auch nicht. Die Songs sind typisch für diese Art von Melodic Metal und die Arrangements lassen die 80er Jahre aus jeder Pore triefen, aber die Band hat klugerweise genug modernes Feingefühl in die Arrangements einfließen lassen, damit es nicht wie eine längst verlorene Zeitkapsel klingt. Es sind die progressiven Elemente, die den Sound reifer wirken lassen und verhindern, dass das Album altmodisch klingt.
Hellfire-Magazin.de: Diese Scheibe hat Drive, macht Spaß und belebt die Szene. Marios Voice erinnert mich in manchen Passagen an Feargal Sharkey. Ansonsten eine sehr gelungene Produktion, die durch Tempo, gute Rhythmik und eine markante Stimme besticht.
MariskalRock.es: Eine einzelne Komposition hervorzuheben, wäre fast schon absurd, denn jede hat ihre eigenen Besonderheiten und ihre eigene Essenz, auch wenn man das bei einem Werk, das mehr als zwanzig Jahre lang in Lethargie verharrte, vermuten könnte. Ohne in die üblichen Klischees des traditionellen Symphonic Rocks zu verfallen und ohne die harmonische Simplizität, die den Melodic Rock bisweilen auszeichnet, sowie die eitle instrumentale Virtuosität beiseite zu lassen, die der moderne Progressive Metal immer wieder bietet, ist es VOYAGER-X gelungen, ein ebenso unterhaltsames wie interessantes Album zu produzieren, bei dem die großartigen Melodien, die sorgfältigen Arrangements, die überragenden Gesangsleistungen und eine sehr gekonnte und kristallklare Produktion „Magic“ zu einem Pflichtkauf machen, wenn man den oben genannten musikalischen Stilmix zu seinen Favoriten zählt.
MetalFactory.ch: Die Produktion ist herausragend. Der Sound ist klar, kraftvoll und dynamisch zugleich. Hier wird zeitloser, sehr spannender Melodic Rock geboten. Die Songs klingen ausgereift, mit viel Melodie und dank Sänger Mario hebt man sich gewaltig von der Masse ab. Sehr interessantes Album.
Metal-Heads.de: Der Band merkt man die laaaaange Pause nicht an. Das Material wurde zeitgemäß aufgefrischt, ohne den eigenen Spirit zu verlieren. Man hat den Geist von damals konserviert und ins Jahr 2024 transportiert. Variabler Gesang und ein gut abgestimmtes Zusammenspiel der Musiker. Man rockt amtlich und kann sich an anderer Stelle auch deutlich zurücknehmen.
Metallus.it: „Magic“ ist ein qualitativ bemerkenswertes Album, das durch sein Storytelling zum Nachdenken anregt und weit über die Aktualität und den einfachen nostalgischen Ansatz hinausgeht, der viele der heutigen AOR-Veröffentlichungen charakterisiert. Angesichts so vieler uninspirierter Nachahmungen ist „Magic“ ein authentisches Album, das seinen Charme und seine Botschaft trotz aller Trends, Widrigkeiten und des zeitlichen Abstands bewahren konnte. Empfehlenswert für sowohl das, was es repräsentiert, als auch die Art und Weise, wie es das tut.

MyRevelations.de: Hier gibt es keine überlangen Epen, auch kein Gefrickel, sondern relativ geradlinige Prog Rock Tracks gerne im Midtempo. Wer abseits der üblichen Verdächtigen nach gutem Hardrock und Prog Rock sucht, ist hier richtig!
PowerMetal.de: Alles in allem hat VOYAGER-X mit „Magic“ ein Album vorgelegt, bei dem man an einzelnen Details ein wenig Kritik üben kann, das aber insgesamt in Dramaturgie, Komposition und Arrangements einen Treffer gelandet hat.
Prog Critique: Insgesamt ist „Magic“ ein sehr hörenswertes Album, das trotz seiner Vintage-Einflüsse nicht altmodisch wirkt. Die Qualität der Melodien, die intensiven Riffs und die vielfältige Instrumentalisierung heben „Magic“ von anderen Alben dieses Genres ab.
SaitenKult.de: Mit VOYAGER-X strahlt in diesem Jahrzehnt endlich noch einmal eine Formation am Firmament, die in einer Reihe mit den großen Namen Ricochet, Sanvoisen und Superior stehen darf. Jegliche Vergleiche mit Formationen wie Queensrÿche oder Saga laufen allerdings ins Leere, selbst mit Ivanhoe, Myrmidion Creed und Axxis. VOYAGER-X begegnen dem Lauschenden derart druckvoll, dass er bei Kontakt in heimischen Gefilden von der Druckwelle in den Sessel geschleudert wird und Mühe hat, die Kopfhörer aufzubehalten. Die Fingerfertigkeit der Instrumentalisten und die Emotions-Akrobatik des Sängers sind berauschend. „Janus Face“ und „Walk On The Dead Line“ blasen den Lauschenden einfach nur um, „Hypnotize You“ sendet zum Gitarren- und Keyboard-Fiedeln sogar noch gehörige, rhythmisch bewegende Riff-Salven aus. Leichte Dramatik kommt in Verbindung mit Klavierklängen in „You Crossed My Way“ auf. Die melodische Schönheit entfaltet sich besonders herrlich knackig und knusprig in „Magic“ oder „C’mon Live Your Dreams Together“, der echte Melodic Rock mit klassischen Keyboard-Wolken in „I Recognize You“ und der Hardrock in „Crime Of The Century“. Echte Magie, aber wie!
RocknForce.com: Luftig und melodisch, aber auch raffiniert und solide: „Magic“ präsentiert eine sehr schöne und breite Palette eines Stils, der Zeit und Trends trotzt, und bei Musikern dieses Kalibers kann man nur das Beste erwarten. Und das ist auch in diesem leicht retro-futuristischen Epos der Fall.

VOYAGER-X are celebrating their successful comeback with today’s release of their Progressive Metal album “Magic” via Dr. Music Records and are thus catapulting their music into the present time

After VOYAGER-X’s three pre-released singles “Janus Face” about madness-driving nightmares, the media-critical “Hypnotize You” and “Walk On The Dead Line”, inspired by a true story about innocent people sentenced to death, have caused quite a buzz in the Rock and Metal scene in recent weeks and months, the long-awaited album “Magic” is finally released today, on 03/22/2024 via Dr. Music Records. With its magical blend of Progressive Metal, Melodic Rock and Hard Rock, the full-length album ignites a virtuoso musical firework show, and while listening to the nine songs remastered by Romin Katzer, the listener literally floats back to a time when musical virtuosity and vocal artistry still harmonized perfectly, and bands such as Van Halen, Survivor, Marillion and Saga dominated the charts. VOYAGER-X skillfully built the bridge from Classic Bombast and Artrock to more modern sounds with their sophisticated Rock music and between 1987 and 1997, they belonged at the top of the emerging Rock scene around Nuremberg and Southern Germany. With an original stage performance and strong songs, their refreshing sound inspired fans of harder Rock music at countless concerts and festivals. Singer Mario Gansen recorded the album “We Were All Fools …” with the German Krautrock formation Grim Reaper in 1979 and supported Judas Priest and also Motörhead during their 1980 Bomber tour. During a Dynasty gig, his second bigger band, he met the VOYAGER-X musicians Stephan and Jörg for the first time, with whom he made music together successfully for the next ten years and who are still on board now. Actually, the album “Magic” was supposed to have been released in 1997, but shortly after the recording of the songs in Deckelmann Studio in Zirndorf, Germany, the musicians decided to put their band, then still called VOYAGER, on ice due to their life circumstances at that time, taking them all around the globe. The group then awoke from this deep slumber just after the original line-up consisting of vocalist Mario Gansen, guitarist Stephan Baumgärtner, bassist Jörg Schreiber, keyboardist Christian Mordek and drummer Peter Webert met during an event in 2019, and the idea came up to continue what ended so abruptly 22 years earlier after an exciting decade of intensely lived Rock ’n’ Roll Lifestyle. Due to other bands using the name in the meantime, the band was renamed to VOYAGER-X. Political and still current events are processed in the lyrics, penned by singer Mario Gansen (ex-Grim Reaper, ex-Dynasty). The musicians see themselves as entertainers with a particular claim, taking their audience on a journey through their own Rock history with their varied program.

That VOYAGER-X have achieved something very special with “Magic” is shown by the many, sometimes enthusiastic press reactions from around the world:

Hardline (DE): The album turned out very strong; all nine songs are of a high standard […] everything sounds fresh and unspent, and it’s a very well-produced album.
Rock It! (DE): A great blend of catchy, heavy Rock sounds meeting progressive elements and over which the distinctive, high voice of vocalist Marco Gansen floats. […] It’s a pleasure to listen to the songs. “Magic” has the potential to make it to the top of my personal all-time 100 list.
Legacy (DE): All in all, the compositions are so powerful – even towards the end, the band doesn’t run out of steam – and they were recorded with a hell of an ass-kicking that they seem very contemporary. “Magic” therefore offers the best of both worlds, crowned by a pleasantly snotty singer and present keyboards that don’t take away any of the heaviness, even in AOR-influenced moments (“Crime Of The Century”).

It’s like returning to the days when music was pure magic and bands like Van Halen, Survivor, or Marillion ruled the radio. VOYAGER-X understands how to blend the classic with the modern, creating a sophisticated rock sound. This band’s music instantly hooked me. Unlike many other bands, they don’t forget the importance of arrangements. Each melody is carefully thought out, making each track totally different from the others. And best of all, the album is so clearly produced and mixed that you can hear each instrument separately.
Metal Hammer (IT): All the songs are mature, expressive and sonically focused. The whole thing is refined with a high-class production underlining the excellent skills of the musicians, especially guitarist Baumgartner, who particularly impressed us with his powerful ‘Rother-ian’ solo on “Don’t Lose The Path”. Highly recommended!
Rock Hard (IT): The truth is that the songs on “Magic” stand the test of time and prove to be much more enduring than a lot of material presented as the novelty of the century these days. The aspect that literally leaves one speechless is VOYAGER-X’s ability to create crescendos in their songs that keep raising the level of emotion higher and higher. These metamorphoses are further enhanced by the voice of Mario Gansen, a true chameleon who can completely change his tonality depending on the situation.
Amplified-Mag.de: The combination of powerful guitar riffs, melodic keyboard passages and the charismatic voice of Mario Gansen is simply irresistible. […] All in all, “Magic” is an album that will delight both old-school fans and newcomers alike. Crossfire-Metal.de: The way singer Mario Gansen uses his voice sometimes reminds me of Fish (ex-Marillion), only a bit rougher. The keyboards also occasionally sound like Marillion back then. The South German musicians win me over with this, especially as they are also convincing regarding versatility.

Ever-Metal.com: Think Saga, a bit of Magnum and a dead ringer for Fish-era Marillion in Mario Gansen’s vocals and you can’t go too far wrong. Neither, indeed, does the band. These songs are by the book for this type of Melodic Metal, and the arrangements drip the mid-80s from every pore, but the band wisely kept enough modern sensibilities in the arrangements for this not to sound like a long lost time capsule. It’s the Progressive flourishes that lend a more mature feel to the sound, and prevent this sounding dated.
Hellfire-Magazin.de: This album has drive, is fun and invigorates the scene. Mario’s voice reminds me of Feargal Sharkey in some passages. Apart from that, it’s well-produced and impresses with its tempo, strong rhythm and distinctive voice.

Without falling into the usual clichés of traditional Symphonic Rock and avoiding the harmonic simplicity that sometimes characterizes Melodic Rock and leaving aside the vain instrumental virtuosity repeatedly offered by modern Progressive Metal, VOYAGER-X has succeeded in producing an album that is as entertaining as it is interesting, where the great melodies, the careful arrangements, the outstanding vocal performances and a very skillfull and crystalline production make „Magic“ a must-listen album if the aforementioned musical mix of musical styles is one of your favorites.

Prog Critique: All in all, “Magic” is a very listenable album that, despite its vintage influences, doesn’t come across as old-fashioned. The quality of the melodies, the intense riffs and the diverse instrumentalization set “Magic” apart from other albums in this genre.
SaitenKult.de: With VOYAGER-X, this decade has finally seen another formation shine in the firmament that can stand alongside the big names Ricochet, Sanvoisen and Superior. However, any comparisons with formations such as Queensrÿche or Saga come to nothing, even with Ivanhoe, Myrmidion Creed and Axxis. VOYAGER-X are so powerful that the pressure wave throws listeners into their seats, and they struggle to keep their headphones on. The instrumentalists’ dexterity and the vocalist’s emotional acrobatics are intoxicating. “Janus Face” and “Walk On The Dead Line” simply blow the listener away, “Hypnotize You” even sends out rhythmically thrilling riff salvos in addition to the guitar and keyboard fiddling. Slight drama arises in combination with piano sounds in “You Crossed My Way”. The melodic beauty unfolds particularly wonderfully tight and crisp in “Magic” or “C’mon Live Your Dreams Together”, the real Melodic Rock with classic keyboard clouds in “I Recognize You”, and the Hard Rock in “Crime Of The Century”. Real magic, but in what a way!
