ETTA ZERO: Der Dark Rock Phönix plant den Gipfelsturm

ETTA ZERO, der musikalische Hybrid aus Rock, Electro, Metal und Pop mit ordentlich Gespür für den richtigen Sound und einer markanten Stimme befindet sich dieser Tage in den Aufnahmen zum Nachfolger ihres Debüt-Albums „The Last Of All Sunsets“. Die vier Musiker aus dem mit etwas über 30.000 Einwohnern beschaulichen Fürstentum Liechtenstein kennen sich seit Jugendjahren und spielen seit Mitte der 90er Jahre in unterschiedlichen Formationen, Besetzungen und Stilarten zusammen. Sie mauserten sich zu einer groovigen Rockband mit tiefen schweren Metal Gitarren und modernen, elektronischen Sounds. Nach der Veröffentlichung ihres Debüt-Albums über Dr. Music Records folgte Ende 2015 mit „Sorrow“ ihre 4-Track Single inklusive Musikvideo und Making-of, die durch einen perfektionierten Stilmix aus hartem Metal und mitreißenden Beats brilliert.

Ursprünglich im Jahr 2000 unter dem Namen Downfall als Synthie Pop Metal Band gegründet, die sich zu Beginn rockigen Covers von 80ies Synth Pop Songs verschrieben hatte, wendete sich die Gruppe mit den Jahren Eigenkompositionen zu. Downfall veröffentlichte zwei EPs (eine 4-Track CD mit Covern und eine mit vier eigenen Songs), gewann zwei Bandcontests (u.a. bei Radio Liechtenstein) und spielte unzählige Konzerte in der Schweiz, Liechtenstein und Österreich, bevor sie im Oktober 2010 unter dem neuen Namen ETTA ZERO den Neuanfang wagten. Nach der Umbenennung begannen Sänger Mathias Nutt, Gitarrist Johannes Schraner, Basser Thomas Hemmi und Schlagzeuger Marius Matt mit den Aufnahmen zu ihrem Album unter der Regie von Tommy Vetterli (u.a. Eluveitie, Coroner, 69 Chambers). Kurz nach Abschluss der Schlagzeugaufnahmen legte eine schwere Erkrankung eines Bandmitgliedes alle Aktivitäten der Gruppe für über ein Jahr auf Eis. Ein Schicksalsschlag, der die Vier nur noch enger zusammengeschweißt hat. Die Aufnahmen zu „The Last Of All Sunsets“ wurden schließlich Ende 2012 beendet. Das Dark Rock Album behandelt textlich die Gegensätze von Licht und Schatten, Schönheit und Tod, die bittersüße Note des Endes, welches auch immer Ursprung eines Auftaktes ist. Auf verschiedenen Ebenen wird sowohl das Ende als auch der Neuanfang sowie auch der perfekte Moment dazwischen widergespiegelt. Hier ist auch der Track „Sorrow“ zu finden, ein kraftvoller Song, der von Reue und die Verzweiflung über eine verflossene Liebe handelt. Und da ETTA ZERO ja bekanntlich Gegensätze lieben, gibt es den Song nun als energiegeladene Single mit ordentlich Electro Einfluss. Sie enthält neben der Originalversion des Songs zwei Remixe von Aljoscha Sieg (Eskimo Callboy, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Any Given Day) und Drop (Deathstars, Linkin Park, Coldplay), eine Piano-Version sowie das Musikvideo und Making-of. Wer bereits „The Last Of All Sunsets“ besitzt, dem dürfte der Name Drop definitv bekannt vorkommen, denn der Sybreed Mastermind steuerte bereits den Remix für den Titelsong, der als Bonus-Track auf dem Longplayer zu finden ist, bei. Genau dieser Remix ist auch auf der neuen Single zu finden. Die Piano-Version vereint auf zarte, klassische Weise die Stücke „Sorrow“ und „The Last Of All Sunsets“ und bildet den Ruhepol dieser Veröffentlichung.

Abgerundet wird das Werk durch das Musikvideo zum Aljoscha Sieg Remix. Elektronische Beats verbinden sich mit harten Gitarrenklängen, während die Kamera, geführt von Pascale Manuel Vegas, alle Gefühle in hochauflösenden Bildern auffängt. Dieses besondere Gesamtpaket erschien am 20.11.2015 sowohl digital als auch in einer limitierten CD-Auflage. Freunde von Linkin Park bis The 69 Eyes sollten bei ETTA ZEROs aktueller Single „Sorrow“ sowie dem Album „The Last Of All Sunsets“ definitiv zuschlagen. Zumindest bis sie die Produktion ihres kommenden Albums abgeschlossen haben und endlich wieder auf Tour gehen.

ETTA ZERO, the musical hybrid of Rock, Electro, Metal and Pop with its proper sense of the right sound and a distinctive voice is currently in the studio to record the follow-up of their debut album “The Last Of All Sunsets“. The four musicians from the Principality of Liechtenstein, which, with approximately 30,000 inhabitants, is truly placid, got to know each other in their youth years and have been playing together in different formations, casts and styles since the mid-1990s. They blossomed out to a grooving Rock band using heavy Metal guitars and modern, electric sounds. After the release of their debut album “The Last Of All Sunsets” by Dr. Music Records, their four track single “Sorrow” including music video and making-of, which shines with its perfected mixture of rough Metal and infectious beats, followed at the end of 2015.

Initially the group was formed in 2000 as a Synth Pop Metal band called Downfall. At first they dedicated themselves to rocking cover versions of 80s Synth Pop songs, but over the years the group turned their hands to their own compositions. Downfall released two EPs (one four track cover EP and one four track EP with their own songs), won two band contests (i.a. at Radio Liechtenstein) and played a vast number of concerts in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria until they finally dared a new start as ETTA ZERO in October 2010. Shortly after their renaming, singer Mathias Nutt, guitarist Johannes Schraner, bassist Thomas Hemmi and drummer Marius Matt started recording their debut album directed by Tommy Vetterli (Eluveitie, Coroner, 69 Chambers…). When the drum recordings were completed, one of the band members’ serious illness put the group’s activities off for over one year. A stroke of fate which welded the four even closer together. After all, the recordings for “The Last Of All Sunsets” were finished at the end of 2012. The Dark Rock album’s lyrics deal with the contradictions of light and shadow, beauty and death, the bittersweet notion of the end, which is always the origin of a new beginning, too. On various levels both the end and the recommencement as well as the perfect moment in between are reflected. This is where one can find “Sorrow”, a powerful song, which is about remorse and despair of a lost love. And as it is generally known that ETTA ZERO love opposites, the song is now available as an energetic single with proper Electro influences. Besides the song’s original version it contains two remixes by Aljoscha Sieg (Eskimo Callboy, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Any Given Day) and by Drop (Deathstars, Linkin Park, Coldplay), a piano version as well as the music video and a making-of. Those who already own “The Last Of All Sunsets” will definitely know Drop since the Sybreed mastermind has already contributed a remix for the title song, which can be found on the long-player as a bonus track. The very same remix can be found on the new single as well. The piano version brings the musical works “Sorrow” and “The Last Of All Sunsets” together in a gentle, classical way and constitutes this release’s calm anchor.

The work is rounded off by the music video for the Aljoscha Sieg remix. Electronic beats join up with rough guitar sounds while the camera, operated by Pascale Manuel Vegas, captures all emotions on high-resolution images. This special comprehensive package was released digitally and as a limited CD edition on 20th November 2015. Those of you who like Linkin Park as well as The 69 Eyes should definitely go for ETTA ZEROs current single “Sorrow” and their album “The Last Of All Sunsets”. At least until they have finished the production of their upcoming album and when they will go on tour again.
