MESENTERY vertonen mit ihrem Death Metal Album „Soulfucker“ eine beklemmende Junkie-Biografie

MESENTERY machten bereits Anfang der 2000er mit ihren ersten drei Veröffentlichungen auf sich aufmerksam und melden sich nun nach beinahe zehnjähriger Pause mit ihrem neuen Album „Soulfucker“, das am 11.02.2022 über Dr. Music Records erscheint, angriffslustig zurück. Frontmann und Gitarrist Marcel Braun ist bereit der sich neu zusammengefundenen Band aus dem Hamburger Umland mit den abwechslungsreichen zehn Tracks und ihrer Mischung aus Death Metal, Thrash wie auch anderen Extreme Metal Einflüssen frisches Leben einzuhämmern. Zwischen harten Old School Riffs, brutalen Grooves und stimmigen Melodiespitzen wird ein diabolischer Spannungsbogen aufgebaut. „Soulfucker“ wurde von Mastermind Marcel Braun, der sowohl den Gesang, die Gitarren als auch Bassspuren selbst übernahm und Schlagzeuger Eryc Botz im legendären Chameleon Recording Studio Hamburg eingespielt. Produziert von Eike O. Freese (Helloween, Alice Cooper, Heaven Shall Burn) entstand ein Album, das von der Wut und dem Schmerz über das Fehlverhalten der Gesellschaft bestimmt wird. Dieses manifestiert sich besonders im Titelthema, das auf der schonungslosen Biografie „Seelenficker“ basiert, in der die Autorin unter dem Pseu­d­o­nym Natascha ihre unerbittliche, ungeschönte Zeit auf dem Drogenstrich und als Crystal-Meth-Abhängige nachzeichnet. Die Lyrics des Albums gelten als eine Warnung und beschreiben mit voller Härte und Gnadenlosigkeit, was in unserer kranken, egozentrischen und gierigen Gesellschaft vor sich geht.

MESENTERY wurden bereits 1992 von Marcel Braun und Carsten Pickbrenner aus der Taufe gehoben und kurz darauf stießen Gitarrist Florian Triska, Bassist Boris Stellmann und Shouter Christian Busch hinzu. Im Jahr 2000 erschien nach drei Demos das Debütalbum „Blood Rain“ sowie später die EPs „Slaves“ und „Bound Windows“ über Low Records. Zusammen spielten sie zahlreiche Shows und tourten mit der chilenischen Death Thrash Underground Kultband Undercroft. Nach dem tragischen Tod von Bassist Boris Stellmann legten die Freunde die Band 2014 vorerst auf Eis und widmeten sich anderen Projekten. Doch MESENTERY ging dem Bandleader über die Jahre nicht aus dem Kopf und so weckte er seine Formation vor zwei Jahren aus dem eisigen Tiefschlaf. Zunächst noch allein entwickelte er den Sound weiter und schuf das neue Death Metal Album „Soulfucker“ quasi im Alleingang. Zwischenzeitlich überzeugte er seine alten Weggefährten Florian Triska und Carsten Pickbrenner davon MESENTERY wieder in voller Besetzung auf die Bühne zu bringen. Die zehn Songs von „Soulfucker“ schreien förmlich nach ihrer Feuertaufe in den Clubs. Mit der melancholischen Single „The Time Before Death“ beginnt der düstere Reigen. Hier beschäftigen sich die Norddeutschen mit der Vergänglichkeit und Verschwendung einer nutzlosen menschlichen Existenz, die durch blinden Konsum und einen nicht vorhandenen Sinn gekennzeichnet ist. Die zweite knallharte und aggressive Single „2025“ zeigt eine Welt, die von Krieg geplagt ist, mit Ländern, die nur auf ihren eigenen Vorteil bedacht die Welt ausbeuten, bis sie in den Abgrund stürzen. Für beide Singles haben sich MESENTERY mit dem englischen Videokünstler Andy Pilkington von Very Metal Art (Judas Priest, Onslaught, Sortout) zusammengetan, der die bösartig, direkten Lyric-Videos produziert hat, die mit einem morbiden Charme die Message des jeweiligen Songs perfekt wiederspiegeln. Der treibende und energiegeladene Track „Inevitable“ zeigt eine Welt, die ihr Schicksal ohne Hoffnung auf Erlösung besiegelt hat. „Virtopsy“ wiederum ist eine Kritik an unserer digitalisierten Welt, die mit melodischen Disharmonien und harschen Gitarren versucht, den Zuhörer aus einem Albtraum der absoluten Überwachung aufzuwecken, wo jeder nackt und hilflos durch die Gesellschaft irrt. Beide Songs werden ebenfalls als Singles, mit überwältigenden Musikvideos produziert vom VideoProduktionsHaus, ausgekoppelt.

„Soulfucker“ ist mit seiner aggressiven Grundhaltung, dem spannend und drastischen Titelthema sowie den gesellschaftskritischen Texten nicht nur instrumental ein Leckerbissen für Underground Death Metal Maniacs. MESENTERY gehören mit diesem gradlinigen und schonungslosen Album definitiv noch nicht zum alten Eisen und nicht nur Fans von Bands wie Unleashed, Carcass oder Hail Of Bullets sollten sich mit dieser Scheibe auseinandersetzen.

MESENTERY already attracted attention in the early 2000s with their first three releases and now, after a break of almost ten years, they announce their comeback with their new album “Soulfucker” in a combative manner, to be released on February 11, 2022, via Dr. Music Records. Frontman and guitarist Marcel Braun is ready to inject fresh life into the newly formed band from the Hamburg area with the varied ten tracks and their mixture of Death Metal, Thrash as well as other Extreme Metal influences. Between hard old-school riffs, brutal grooves and harmonious melody peaks, diabolic suspense is built up. “Soulfucker” has been recorded at the legendary Chameleon Recording Studio Hamburg, featuring mastermind Marcel Braun on vocals, guitar and bass and Eryc Botz on drums. Produced by Eike O. Freese (Helloween, Alice Cooper, Heaven Shall Burn), the album is defined by anger and pain about the misbehavior of society. This manifests itself, especially in the title theme, which is based on the unsparing biography “Seelenficker”, where the author using the pseudonym Natascha traces her relentless, unprettified time on drug-related prostitution and as a crystal meth addict. The album’s lyrics are a warning and depict with full harshness and mercilessness what is going on in our sick, self-centered and greedy society.

MESENTERY were founded in 1992 by Marcel Braun and Carsten Pickbrenner and joined shortly after by guitarist Florian Triska, bass player Boris Stellmann and shouter Christian Busch. In the year 2000, after three demos, the debut album “Blood Rain” was released, as well as later the EPs “Slaves” and “Bound Windows” via Low Records. Together they played numerous shows and toured with the Chilean Death Thrash underground cult band Undercroft. After the tragic death of bassist Boris Stellmann in 2014, the friends initially put the band on hold and devoted themselves to other projects. But over the years, MESENTERY were not out of the bandleader’s mind and so he awoke his formation from the icy, deep sleep two years ago. Initially, he continued developing the sound on his own and created the new Death Metal album “Soulfucker” quite single-handedly. In the meantime, he convinced his old bandmates Florian Triska and Carsten Pickbrenner to bring MESENTERY back on stage with a full line-up. The ten songs of “Soulfucker” literally scream for their baptism of fire in the clubs. With the melancholy single “The Time Before Death”, the sinister tracklist begins. Here, the Germans deal with the transitoriness and waste of a useless human existence, characterized by blind consumption and a non-existent meaning. The second hard-hitting and aggressive single “2025” shows a world plagued by war, with countries that only care about their own advantage exploiting the world until they fall into the abyss. For both singles, MESENTERY teamed up with English video artist Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art (Judas Priest, Onslaught, Sortout), which produced viciously direct lyric videos perfectly reflecting the message of each song with a morbid charm. The driving and energetic track “Inevitable” shows a world that has sealed its fate without hope of redemption. “Virtopsy”, in turn, is a critique of our digitalized world, trying with melodic disharmonies and harsh guitars to wake up the listener from a nightmare of total surveillance, where everyone strays naked and helpless throughout society. Both songs will also be released as singles, with stunning music videos produced by VideoProduktionsHaus.

“Soulfucker” is a treat for underground Death Metal maniacs with its aggressive attitude, the exciting and drastic title theme as well as socio-critical lyrics, not only instrumentally. MESENTERY definitely are not on the scrap heap yet with this straightforward and relentless album and not only fans of bands such as Unleashed, Carcass or Hail Of Bullets should check out this record.
