Große Gefühle, Energie, melancholisch sanfte Melodien. BIRDEATSBABY aus Brighton sind ein besonderes Ensemble, das seit 2009 für das große Kino im Kopf sorgt. Den Namen der Dark Progressive Rock Band buchstäblich im Schlaf erfunden, wandelt Bandleaderin und Multiinstrumentalistin Mishkin Fitzgerald mitsamt ihren Mitstreitern auf Pfaden fernab des gleichförmigen Mainstreams. „The World Conspires“ ist das fünfte Album und gleichzeitig der Beginn einer neuen Phase in der musikalischen Entwicklung von BIRDEATSBABY bei der erstmals auch die Sphären des modernen Prog Metals touchiert werden. Die Engländer betreten diese neuen Wege der kreativen Inspiration und verschmelzen ihr Genre Dark Cabaret mit härteren progressiven Sounds ohne ihre Wurzeln zu vernachlässigen. Als sie sich während ihres Studiums an der Universität Brighton trafen, entstand zwischen der flammenhaarigen BIRDEATSBABY Sängerin Mishkin Fitzgerald und Gitarrist Garry Mitchell eine blühende musikalische Partnerschaft mit einer gemeinsamen Liebe zur dunklen, progressiven Musik. Nach einigen Besetzungswechseln hat sich die Band mit Anna Mylee am Schlagzeug und Hana Maria an Geige, Cello und Harfe vervollständigt. Angefangen in der Punk Cabaret Szene entwickelte sich der Sound in einen atmosphärischen, melancholischen Prog Rock mit Steampunk Fragmenten, der mit klassischen Orchesterelementen, gewagten Gitarren und komplizierten Arrangements begeistert. Die Band hat mit ihrer kultähnlichen weltweiten Fangemeinde, treffend ‘The Flock’ genannt, jede ihrer Veröffentlichungen über Crowdfunding-Kampagnen erfolgreich finanziert. Dazu kamen Supportslots mit The Courtesans und den deutschen Gothic Ikonen ASP sowie hunderte Konzerte in Großbritannien, Europa, USA und auch Mexiko. Mit ihrem neuen Studioalbum „The World Conspires“ sind BIRDEATSBABY nun mit einem Soundtrack für die gefühlvolle, eindringliche, aufrührerische Huldigung des Lebens in all seinen Facetten zurückgekehrt. Das Album führt den Hörer auf eine Achterbahnfahrt voller dramatischer Gefühle und emotionaler Konflikte. Vom reichen, orchestralen wie zerbrechlich wirkenden Album-Opener „Hold Your Breath“, einem Mantra für jeden, der ein Trauma durchgemacht hat, geht es über das mystische „Painkiller“ sowie dem Titelsong und seiner überbordenden Ode an die Liebe weiter mit „Lady Grey“, die elegisch fesselnd durch die Schatten wandelt, bevor die Musiker mit „How Do I“ die Geschwindigkeit zurücknehmen und dafür Mishkins gefühlvollen Gesang über leisen Klavierklängen, untermalt von Streichern, schweben lassen. Über das tragische „Box Of Razorblades“, geht es stimmungsvoll weiter bis mit dem außergewöhnlichen „Dido’s Lament“ samt brilliantem Gastgesang von Feline Lang (Feline & Strange) der letzte Akt eingeleitet wird. Bei „Kill No One“ blitzt die Punk Attitude früherer Tage wieder auf, bevor mit dem sphärischen „Look Away“ der letzte Vorhang fällt.

The name of the Dark Progressive Rock band was literally dreamt up while sleeping, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist Mishkin Fitzgerald and her fellow bandmates walk on paths far away from the uniform mainstream. “The World Conspires” is the fifth album and at the same time the beginning of a new phase in the musical development of BIRDEATSBABY, touching the spheres of modern Prog Metal for the first time. Reaching into these new avenues of creative inspiration, the English band fuses its genre of Dark Cabaret with harder progressive sounds without neglecting its roots. When they met during their studies at Brighton University, BIRDEATSBABY’s flame-haired vocalist Mishkin Fitzgerald and guitarist Garry Mitchell formed a thriving musical partnership with a mutual love of dark and progressive music. After a few line-up changes the band has been completed with Anna Mylee on drums and Hana Maria on violin, cello and harp. Starting out in the Punk Cabaret scene, the sound progressed into an atmospheric, melancholic Prog Rock with Steampunk fragments, which excites with classical orchestral layers, bold guitars and intricate arrangements. The band has amassed a cult-like following across the world, aptly called ‘The Flock’, and has been able to successfully crowd-fund each of their releases. Additionally, they landed support slots with The Courtesans, the German Gothic icons ASP and played hundreds of shows in the UK, Europe, the United States and also Mexico. With their new studio album “The World Conspires” BIRDEATSBABY have now returned with a soundtrack for the soulful, haunting, riotous celebration of life in all its facets. The album leads the listener on a roller coaster ride of drama and conflicting emotions. From the rich, orchestral and fragile album opener “Hold Your Breath”, a mantra for anyone who has gone through trauma, it continues with the mystical “Painkiller”, as well as the title song and its overwhelming ode to love, on to “Lady Grey”, which elegiacally and captivatingly walks through the shadows, before the musicians slow down with “How Do I” and let Mishkin’s sensitive voice float over soft piano sounds, accompanied by strings. The tragic “Box Of Razorblades” continues atmospherically until the last act is introduced with the extraordinary “Dido’s Lament” along with brilliant guest vocals by Feline Lang (Feline & Strange). In “Kill No One” the punk attitude of earlier days flashes up again before the last curtain falls with the spherical “Look Away”.
